Fan their hearts

At the meeting point of textile design, sculpture and painting Aurora Bentedatter Passero works with site-specific installations. Traditional textile techniques like crochet, weaving and macramé are given an experimental form in her works, translated and performed in non-traditional materials such as nylon, acrylic, wax, paint, plastic and plaster. Using research into engineering, her works produce abstract shapes and organic structures that emphasise inherent qualities such as artistic expression, form and vocabulary. Unusual juxtapositions of, for example, textile and plastics, wax and sand, the fluid and the solid, or the synthetic and the natural, create contrasting textures that open up new visual and tactile experiences. A material's inherent characteristics and physical abilities are thus central to Passero's work.
