Damaged Goods

Inspired by the vast underworld of YouTube's user comments, Harm Weistra's video piece Damaged Goods joins verbatim, found text and dance in an unusual choreography. After researching and categorising YouTube comments, focusing on those that were hateful and particularly on those that were homophobic, Weistra recorded a selection using two English voice actors and then, for six weeks, worked with two dancers who were asked to physically express given emotions. The dance work was filmed, edited and combined with the recorded comments, which gradually influence the behaviour and movement of the dancers.
