Low Culture: Modern music for bariton saxophone, spoken word and electronics

Low Culture is a musical journey for solo baritone saxophone from the familiar into the unknown. The performance begins with arrangements of a simple folk song (Jose Afonso’s "À Proa") and a funk jam (Parliament's "Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples"), and ends with more adventurous works that blur the lines between art music and theatre (Kevin Clark's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock"), and push the boundaries of modern saxophone technique (Perry Goldstein's "Total Absorption"). Each piece extends the ideas of its predecessor in a new direction.
