Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre
‘Dreamspell’ is a debut performance directed by Kamilė Gudmonaitė, a theatre directing student at Lithuania Music and Theatre Academy. The production is based on excerpts from August Strindberg‘s ‘A Dream Play’. By exploiting a metaphor of a grotesque school, the young artists are concerned with the concept of human identity and the meaning of life. How can these questions be answered if the truth diminishes and shrinks with every word uttered? In the plight for balance between logic and irrationality, the creative team of the performance is looking for the state of mind in-between of sleep and wakefulness, which brings along the deepest thoughts uncensored by logical thinking. This is the world where a poet tries to open the door of perception but finally gets crucified by human pitifulness, the world where everything is possible, personalities merge and double, and it is impossible to answer simple questions, What is two times two? Can you open the door? Does the door exist? Is it possible to count up to infinity?
