»Eine Ampelsinfonie« (A Traffic Light Symphony)
‘Eine Ampelsinfonie’ is a visual score published as a book. It refers to four separate locations in the city of Vienna, with each location representing one movement in the symphony. The acoustic recordings taken in each place were analysed and transcribed to create a visual image. This visualisation serves as a graphic notation of an irregular, abstract element of our everyday environment; traffic noise on the streets of a big city. Through a combination of information, analysis and subjective experience, intersections are thus transformed into a concert, which the score allows us to attend at a given hour. The complex acoustic impressions of life in the city are here turned into a musical experiment to be read.
