Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten
This work by artist Michelle Blondeel shows the underrated side of silence. Not just in music, but also in personalities. Michelle Blondeel wants to alert the audience to the strength of silence. The Sylenthesizer has the exact opposite working of a synthesizer (or most instruments) we’re used to. Usually an instrument is silent by itself until you start to play it and start to create the sounds. The Sylenthesizer has 8 keys, and so 8 notes, which are constantly present. So this time once you press a key, the note will ‘disappear’ instead of ‘appear’ and you can create music the other way around. Instead of putting sound into silence, you now put silence into sound.
