Sander Tuvikene’s Sleet is an audiovisual composition with sound for four speakers. The piece is inspired by the idea of space as an illusion of flawed perceptions. What is visible gives shape to the auditory space: sights and sounds fuse together in the mind. Breaking the audiovisual composition down to its component parts prohibits the perception of the whole, but the illusory sense of it all still remains. The flow of sound is born out of the logic and mood of the scene. The sound grows, dies, reappears, and diminishes as if cued by audience perceptions. The initial design involved traces of particles that reacted to certain audio frequencies. These traces were used to modulate the geometry and serve as inspiration for the animation.
