Three architecture postgraduates from Birmingham School of Architecture and University of Nottingham, Holly Rose Doron, Matt Warren and Matt Vaughan, won £10,000 to form a research practice: SWOT[studio]. As winners of the Deutsche Bank 2013 Award for Creative and Cultural Practice, they are facilitating an innovative experiment called S[q]WOT. The project is a collaboration between Birmingham Institute of Art and Design students/S[q]WOT[ters] from seven disciplines. The S[q]WOT[ters] are working together to design and build a flexible studio/ incubation/ exhibition/ forum/ workshop space within the faculty’s atrium. This award-winning project promotes multidisciplinary collaboration and creative entrepreneurialism with the aim to encourage students to become more resourceful and challenge traditional routes between academia and profession.
